Bolek,

Your fish is one of the species that belongs to the resticulosa-complex. It probably is A. sp. Cheek-spots/Wangenflecken. I would need to see more photos to be absolutely certain.

Thank you Mike,
I moved some to another tank and took pictures of a male.

In order to give you an idea about the size of this specimen, here are its pictures with Ram and trifasciata

If there is a detail of its body which is especially important from diagnostic point of view, please let me know, I will try and take picture of this part.

Thank you

Bolek,

I am fairly certain that this is A. sp. Spotted-cheeks/Wangenflecken. Unlike most populations of the A. taeniata/resticulosa superspecies, A. sp. Spotted-cheeks has an unpatterned caudal fin. It also has a slighly narrower, longer lateral band (extends into Bar 7; in other forms it rarely extends past Bar 6). Your fish do not show the usual rusty red spots on the gill covers, but this is not a diagnostic feature for Spotted-cheeks. A. sp. Spotted-cheeks lives on the Ihla de Marajó, the large island at the mouth of the Amazon River. It is usually exported from Belém.

Thank you again Mike,

I just looked at one of the other males from the same spawn (as the one presented on the pictures). The other male has couple of red spots on both his gill covers.

By the way, when trying to identfy my fishes i was in contact with another apisto-fan from Poland. It turned out that he had very similarly looking apistos. You can see them under the links:

Based on your description posted here and my observation of those fishes I guess that these fishes belong to the same species as mine. Am I correct?

The sources we both got our fishes from are independent, that is why I am asking.

Thanx,

Bolek
