This is a young female of mine and her first spawn. She'd been holding for about 11 days, but yesterday got frazzled at *something* and started spitting fry left and right. She ignored the ones she'd spit, so I caught her, stripped the rest, and rounded up the strays still in her tank. I suspect it was due to her being young and inexperienced, and possibly not up to optimal weight before spawning. She was looking pretty darn skinny by the time she spit. Anyhow, I'm amazed. This is my first mouthbrooder spawn. Where does she FIT all those? The blob of (still on egg sac) fry is as large as the female is. I counted--no joke--52 young, and only 1 bad egg in the lot. Color me amazed.
I lost 2 fry in the last 24 hours, but the others are doing just fine, swimming around, obviously getting more mobile and the egg sacs are shrinking, so I think they'll be fine.
