male hiding?

[rob the dwarf cichlid fan]

I have a male double red, and been trying to get him to mate.this past couple of weeks ive noticed him missing
and started looking for his body.removing rocks and wood.then I found him in a cave still alive.noticed that he only somtimes comes out only to be feed but not all the time. he just stays in his little hide away with the female just out side seeing other fish off.

dont want to touch the ornament (cave) just incase I disturb somthing.
is there fry in there?
Any ideas?

Sorry, but you don't provide enough information. Please describe the tank: size, water conditions/quality, decor, other fish, etc.
