Hi everyone,

I am looking to get some Apisto tanks set up and I would really like to stick to one pair per tank. I have a fire red agassizii tank set up, a blue pearl tefe tank, and an unknown group at the moment. The other day my local shop had gotten in a pair of orange flash cacatuoides but they were gone before I could get there. They also had a pair of panduro that I bought in a hurry without knowing much about them and needless to say I now have a 35 dollar fish that I cant use for anything :(

With that being said I was wondering if you guys can let me know what some of the types are that will be compatible(for the most part) so long as I have any male and any female. I wont rely on my LFS, or any online seller for that matter, to sell me bonded pairs. Even if they are bonded it will most likely be broken after they are shipped and then eventually end up in my tanks.

A couple species I am checking out right now are Borelli, anything Cacatuoides from what I understand, bitaeniata, baenschi, and possibly allpahuayo. Any guidance you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, if you can't add 3 females with your male so they can select each other (and then remove the other females), you'd be better off picking something less 'picky', mate-wise.

Hey Bropez,

Once I get my tanks back running, and make sure all my dwarf cichlids survived the summer outside maybe we can exchange fry. I have:
Nannacara anomala (Similar to Apistogramma, but females are extremely protective)
A. macmasteri
A. boreli

Lets hope. My tefe have spawned and are wigglers at the moment. I am hoping they survive but am not sure how long it takes for them to get free swimming.
