New Tank ideas

At my local fish club spring auction yesterday I purchased a 35 gallon acrylic tank and I am thinking of getting a trio of Apistos. What I had in mind was a planted tank with the trio of Apisto, 4 Corys, 1 Siamensis, one Ottocinclus and maybe 6 tetras(Rummy Nose?). The tank has a wet/dry trickle filter in the back so it should be okay on the bio-load. My question would be, would these fish be a good match? Any suggestions on the type of Apistos? I'm going to the ACA convention in Cincinnati at the end of July so I'll should have a wide selection of Apistos to choose from.

Alex,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Sounds like a pretty good tank to me. Your filtration is more than adequate with a wet/dry. What water will you use?
The one resident that might cause trouble is the SAE. They tend toget to be little terrors after awhile.
As far as what pair or trio to put in there, you need to figure out what you like first. There are so many sizes and shapes and colors of Apistogramma that it should be a subjective thing. The species will determine whether you would OK with a trio or best to stick with a pair. Cacatuoides, borellii, eunotus, rotpunct, and several others are good in many types of water and are generally considered good first apistos.

I have 3 SAEs in my 55g so I was planning on moving one of them and they have been fairly bahaved, so far. As for water I have two tanks, one with a pair of Blue Rams and one with a pair of Gold Rams, that I use peat to bring down from 7.6 to 7.0. I also have a RO setup but was hoping to not have to use it. As for what I like, brighter colors would be nice since it will be a heavily planted tank and while I'm no set on breeding them a few fry for BAP points or to take the club auctions would be okay.
