Multi tank size

Hello all,

I am in the design stages investing in some new tanks to breed various Apistos. I was thinking two tanks 30"L x 15"W x 12"H for growing on (before and after breeding) and four tanks 15"L x 15"W x 12"H for breeding.

Is 12" high enough for Apistos? Are 15"L x 15"W x 12"H tanks big enough for breeding pairs?

Thanks

Jamie

Hello, Jamie,
12" high is more than enough for apistos. Normally, 25cm high is sufficient for most apistos. 15"L x 15"W x 12"H tanks are big enough for breeding pairs. Wait... I'll find something more for you. Hope it will help.

Hi, Jamie,
Here are some photos from my friends' apisto fish rooms back in HongKong and Taiwan.

Big Foot,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I think that this sized tank is pretty appropriate for most apistos. But you may need to provide very good structure for some species. It is not unheard of to find individuals of supposedly mellow apistos that did not read the books about their behavior. Their partners will thank you for providing wood, leaves, rocks, caves, plants, etc. to make it easier to escape.

Cockatoo,
Great pics of your friends set-ups. Very nice 8) Unfortunately, they might not last long when Gary sees them. He sometimes will let a pic or 2 get through (loaded directly to the forum) but usually like to have just links. That way those with dial-up connects don't have to wait an extended time for everything to load when they are using the forum.

Hello

Thanks for your replys.

Assuming I go for the 4 15" x 15" x12 and two 30" x 15" x 12", should I use a centralised filteration system? I would gain advantages in maintance time and it would be eaiser to keep the system stable with the larger water volume. However, if each tank is kept seperate, I will be able to change the water prameraters to suit diffrent dwarf's.

Thanks

Jamie

Those are good sizes just dont use the centralised filter. Sponges are still the best. As for the height of your tanks 12" is good I have a bunch like that and some that are even ten inches high the ones in the pics look too tall to me--here is a pic of mine these are 12 inches tall--actually just about identical to your growout tanks!
