Clean your tank , feed less, uneaten food degrades water quality.
Do a small water change and observe your apistos.

How new is the tank? I have seen this happen in one of my tanks. the problem went away once the tank hit about three months (if I remember). No matter how little I fed, fungus would form on the smallest piece of uneaten food. (At the time I was trying to get A. panduros to accept dry food as a staple, so there was always a little bit of uneaten food in the tank). It's not harmful (I've seen fish even pick at it and spit it out). It just looks really gross.

It's been up four about 3 mos now, but only 1.5 w/ a substantial bio-load. I lost an Apisto last night and I think I may lose another today. As soon as I get home I am going to medicate my tank w/ Aquarisol and Melafix.
I have no trites and barely any trates. I guess I have been mis-feeding. I am, going to have to pick up some frozen brine tonight for them.

Overfeeding

Hello Micro,

As suggested, if there's uneaten food in your tank a few minutes after meal time, then you're overfeeding. Any leftovers should be syphoned out. The fungus-looking appearence of the leftovers is quite common and is usually not a cause for concern. Please syphon it out just the same, however.

Clamped fins are usually a symptom of parasitic infection. Following a water change, a medication like Quick Cure (formaldehyde and malachite green) should clear it up quickly.

Good luck!

get some Otos or yamatos shrimps in there and the clean up crew will finish up any uneaten food.
