My A.Gibbiceps recently spawned in a tank with 6 Black Neon Tetras at PH<6

My A.Borelli (Opal) spawned today in a tank with 5 Honey Blue-Eyes and 3 L066s at PH7.2

These 2 spawns occured wthin 3 days of one another. hmm, I'm thinking sexy water ;-)

I actually managed to observe both spawning sessions and the thing I found most interesting is that both the Borelli males closely guarded the female during the entire process and were often entwined, I suspect, in attempts to nudge the other out of the way. hmm, can I assume that both males fetilised the eggs ?

HELLO,

give it time, if this is your first spawn, then it is usual that they eat the fry sometimes as this was just a test run. Keep on feeding them as per normal and enjoy the changes again when they spawn.
cheers jan

1st Spawn

First spawn for these fish yes. The Gibbiceps eggs were grey and the Borelli eggs were beige - is this normal for these species ?

Re: my Cacatouides - I have segregated all the runts into their own tank, some as small as 2cm while others are 8cm. Hopefully they'll grow more quickly as they'll not be denied feeding rights. 1 of these double reds has developed red ventral finnage. He's about 4cm (from lip to tail tip) and boss of the tank. hmm. might try to find him a mate.

Spwan Again

My A.Borelli (1 male and 1 female) spawned again this morning. The eggs were deposited at the same location as last time. The overly lustful male had been pursuing the female rather consistently so hopefully now she'll get the rest she deserves while I keep my fingers crossed

Finally - Fry

My A.Gibbiceps fry emerged today. The PH value was <6 and temp hovering at 25.5 degrees. Its difficult to determine the number but I reckon 50+ fry are now cowering to mothers demands while dad is doing his best to stay on the offensive and out of mums' way. 2 additional males were relocated for their wellbeing.

The female bred with the dominate male but.....I believe she had leanings towards another male which I consider more beautiful. Should I pair these fish for a future spawn ?

The Borelli (Opal) female has been guarding eggs for 3 days now so I am hopeful these won't be eaten amd that fry will also soon emerge. Fingers crossed

I'm A Fish-Daddy / Again

My A. steindachneri was observed escorting its brood across the tank today (9th Nov). This is the 2nd spawn this week (the gibbicepts fry emerged on the 4th) so Im am obviously delighted. The PH is a little above neutra, temp at 26 degrees and water mildly stained with driftwood tannis. Gusestimation of fry numbers - over 50. Fry are being fed cyclop-eeze and microworms.

Fry

The gibbiceps fry are developing extremely well (in their 50 litre environment) and will be moving on shortly. The steindachneri are growing more slowly (in their 250 litre environment) which I attribute to food finding. The larger tank, with 20+ catfish, makes feeding a less assured affair. The cacatuoides (in their 50 litre environment) have of late been devoping well but no where near the point of the gibbiceps born 10 days earlier. All fry are now tackling mosquito larvae and live blackworms along with small granulated food (hikari micro pellets) and are still fed occasional Cyclop-Eeze.

My A. jurensis (German) fry emerged 2 days ago (January 3rd) and are very tiny. They are being fed fry food (liquid) and microworms - fingers crossed.

The A.borelli have become somewhat stagnant - hmm.
