First, welcome to the apisto forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can help you. Now to answer your question: do you want to breed your apistos (produce fry) or do want a good looking community aquarium? If you really aren't interested in producing fry, then 8-10 small schooling fish with a pair of apistos and maybe 6 smaller corys would make an excellent community set-up. If you are interested in producing fry, then I wouldn't recommend adding most schooling tetras (or corys) since many are efficient fry predators. Many species work well. Hatchetfishes, pencilfishes, and smaller surface-dwelling killifishes and livebearer can be used in breeding tanks.
