So I got a surplus male Apistogramma cf. cacatuoides Aguaytia (I bought this from aquaticclarity at their sale last year, and gave them to a friend who's a much better breeder of these than I; he gave me the surplus male). I don't have a female, and the only other cacatuoides females I have are orange flash. Is it worth the trouble of trying to breed them, or is the potential "hybridization" a reason not to?

Breed them if you want. You aren't hybridizing anything. They're the same species, just different population (Aguaytia) and domestic color strain (Orange Flash). I wouldn't guess what the offspring will look like, however. Just don't sell them as 'A. cacatuoides Aguaytia' or 'A. cacatuoides Orange Flash'.
