Went to buy some bloodworm today and found these fish in lfs. So happy as not seen them before and just the right timing for the breeding tank:D

Anyone had these fish before?? They are settling in well but will need a bit of time to colour up!!!

Keebz,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

This is one of those Apistogramma species that can be suprisingly difficult or quite easy to breed. Regardless, they are a very beautiful species and well worth the possible frustration. Water conditions can be slightly alkaline and hard with limited success, but slightly acid and soft is far more likely to provide good results. I have never had any difficulty in their breeding, but it is worth mentioning that they are one of the more aggressive apistos and can be devils . I highly recommend a well-structured tank and keeping a close eye on them.

If you haven't already, get them. They are a great little Dwarf Cichlid, despite their sometimes bad disposition.

I have a 35g with 3 F0 females right now that are beautiful. I had an F0 male but he died and I have been looking for the last 2 months of anyone who carries any F0 male nijsseni.

Anyways, they can be slightly aggressive, but for the most part it's just one picking on another or my cories once in awhile. I think mine are ready to breed right now and there is no male so they're getting a little more hostile. They are beautiful though. They are bright yellow with a nice neon orange stripe on the end of the tail fin and the top of the dorsal fin.

I'd highly recommend them to anyone. They are great. They've gotten me addicted to apistos. They have so much personality too. They all come right up to the front of the tank when I walk up.

Neil is right, in all my research on them, some people can breed them without trying and some can try for 10 years with no success.

Good luck and I hope you pick some up.
