A.hongsloi or A.viejita female?

Hi, I've got a problem. I recently bought a pair of A.viejita. However, they were in the same tank as A. Hongsloi (smart move). So this is the question: does anyone know what differences there are between A.Hongsloi and A.viejita females? I couldn't find any real differences myself. I hope I haven't ended up with a viejita male and a hongsloi female. Thanks in advance, Robert

IDing A. viejita Females

Dear Robert,

A. viejita females differ from the other species of the genus in that they have some distinctive black ventral markings. Have a look at the underside of your fish. If you see some black markings on the ventral side of the opercle and in the ventral fin area, you've got viejita.

Randall is correct. It is also likely that your female viejita will have a black chin and will be a little thinner than the hongsloi.

thnx for your replies. Anyway, the female turned out to be A.hongsloi.
Do you reckon I should go back to the store, explain the situation and see if I can get a viejita female in return for the hongsloi female?
I've still got the receit.

Dear Roppie,

One might expect that any responsible retailer would exchange your fish for you. Afterall, they're the ones who placed the two Apisto species in the same tank in the first place. If you explain the situation, hopefully they'll make the swap.
