    Not moving

Usually, when an apisto darkens up this represents some sort of internal bacteria? Also this would explain his sluggish behaviour.I would try an internal bacteria treatment and see if you notice any improvement.

    Apistogramma Viejita "Red-Gold" fry

Just thought I would add this clip of the first time the fry came out, they are just say free-swimmers and full of live bbs. These cultivated species are more likely to be egg eaters so i am happy that in the space of a week I have had fry from these and my A.Agassizii "fire red".:biggrin...

    Apistogramma Agassizii "Fire red"

I will try that. I think that the female who is still in the cave with her fry is reluctant to bring them out. She has been in there for quite a long time and when i had a quick look the fry were hopping around. I will divide the tank and split the two females and their brood, thanks for the...

    Apistogramma Agassizii "Fire red"

I have got a trio of A.Agassizii "fire red" in a 2ft tank and both of the females have fry. One of the females brought out her free-swimmers yesterday and the other will be bringing her's out either tomorrow or the next day. There has been quite a bit of aggression between the females and i am...

    sex ratio

From what Uwe Romer mentions in his books the sex ratio is influenced more by temperature than p.h. For 50/50 sex ratio's he suggests a temperature of 26'c and from what i have seen with my fry it is pretty accurate.

Panduro female ate her eggs... why?

By shrimp Mike means brine shrimp, not large live ones:biggrin:. As it is so often said feeding worms can introduce pathogens. As for dried staple foods like pellets or flakes it depends on what your fish will eat. Mine, generally, turn their noses up at dried foods in favour of a mixture of...

    Apistogramma Steindachnerii literature?

Mike do you still have copies of the translations for Koslowski, Ingo. 2002. Die Buntbarsche Amerikas, Band 2: Apistogramma & Co? I have been told that you are the only one with the translation?

Panduro female ate her eggs... why?

i think you're overthinking it a bit. It is only rarely that you will catch the fish spawning and most apisto's are excellent parents. Chances are the female has simply moved the fry to a different place. In my experience most of my Apisto females move the fry when they are in the larval stage...

    Taking the babies away?

It is strange that your fish only seem to pick the fry of gradually. Usually, in my experiences the fry would all be driven away, or eaten if that's what is happening. I have never had fry be picked off in this fashion, although I have had a pair of P.Taeniatus Moliwe that produced a small batch...

    Taking the babies away?

What else do you have in the tank?If you are housing the pair on their own it might be an idea to add some dither fish to focus their attention on protecting the fry. As for separating the fry, with my P.Taeniatus I generally try to leave them for as long as I can, but this is different for...

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus Moliwe

Previously both the male and female had biparental roles and were both actively caring for the fry. However since the spawning the female has kept the fry with the egg's in the coconut shell, and the male has shyed away to the other end of the tank. I lifted the shell today and there it was, a...

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus Moliwe

no, they are in a breeding tank on their own with no dither fish. The only problem that i can see is that the female is keeping the fry in the cave and I am not sure if she is letting them come out to feed?

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus Moliwe

I have a young pair at the minute who have 2 week old fry and have spawned again. What are the chances of them carrying on caring for the 2 week old fry?As i write this the female has the fry in the cave where the eggs are and the male is staying out of the way.Neither of them are showing any...
