Few more questions and observations

Does the red shoulder give a hint to catch locality ?

His color is much better when he is not just waking up ( caught him sleeping as the lights came on for this pic )

One thing I find is the aggressive mood swing on lateral displays intensifies bars 3-7 and they are much more pronounced in the wilds compared to the aquarium strains I have had in the past .

Is this typical ?

There is not a lot of information on distribution of various color morphs. This is probably due to the political "situation" in Colombia. There just aren't a lot of hobbyists or scientists willing to risk their bodies to examine the area.

When breeders started to enhance the red colors on this fish, many of the dark markings were reduced. What you see is quite common on wild A. macmaster & many other macmasteri-group species.

I've also received some unidentified apisto that were supposed to be wild ramirezi. I would say they are macmasteri also.
