i was trying to find something for cover in my bb apisto tanks where a little agression was a problem. i decided to see how a dinner plate would work. in a few hours, all of the fish were more bold and when the females were getting picked on they would simply hide under the lip of the plate- the male can't see her. it looks kinda wierd, but it works, pretty much the same as oak leaves, ie, they have a place to hide at any time right below them and it makes them more bold. i use a 10" plate in a 10 gal tank, which completely fills the bottom of the tank.
