Hi all,
First the disclaimer that I'm not very good at this, and although I kept A. cacatuoides through multiple generations, I still ended up selling "pairs" that were the same sex.

You can tell when the males start to grow dorsal and caudal fin extensions. The ventral fin edge also helps, females and juveniles have a black leading edge, but in male juveniles it starts to fade as they grow. Have a look at <"Sexing Apistogramma....">.

Sex determination is temperature dependent, higher temperatures give more males. I found about 27oC gave equal numbers of male and females.

cheers Darrel
