hi every one. i am new to this forum and new to the dwarf cichlids. i am in MD USA. looks like no too many place the shop with the dwarf cichlids. where do you guys get ur fish (in USA)?

Hello charels363. I have the same problem finding dwarf cichlids. I am in New Mexico and none of the lfs in my part of the state have even heard of an apisto. I started ordering online. There are lots of souces for dwarfs on the net. This site sells them and then there is aquabid. If you do a a little surfing you will find some sites with dwarfs for sale. I usually get my fish from Ray McCaleb. I hope this helps.

Well, many of the apistogrammas that most of us have are either online purchases which are getting quite reliable these days with getting fish alive and healthy right to your doorstep just like Ray and David Soares who is a regular in this forum and has some of the most stunning fish I have ever seen and or from aquatics organizations (many local).
Ray McCaleb can be found at http://www.raymccaleb.com/ and david Soares will probably be in here soon to leave the best way to get a hold of him. Neil, on here (apistogramma.com) also has fish available! maybe he can further that info alittle later.
Many dwarf cichlids can also be found on Aquabid. Many of these fish are rare and new... which is pretty exciting when they are available... because many are undescribed.

thanks for all of you guys. but there are concerns about shipping online is i don't get the chance to pick the fish, in this weather i think all fish must be shipped by overnight which is kind of expensive. maybe i will try ones to see how it works.

If you live in Maryland, why not contact the folks at the Capital Cichlid Association in Silver Spring? I spoke there last month, and there are a number of highly skilled dwarf cichlid hobbyists in the club. Their web site is at http://www.capitalcichlids.org. Two good persons to contact are Francine Bethea and Ron Nielson. Please tell them Randall sent you, and why not join the club while you're at it? I'm a member.
