apistogramma bluehead

In Australia that is called and Apisto Bluehead. What it is exactly i have no idea. It looks a lot like A. sp. "Winkelfleck" but bluer. Other than that im not sure. Good luck, mines got a little red on his fins now and he looks like he has a white zigzag down his body. Pretty fish but mine is fairly timid

This fish has been sold under a number of names. A. sp. Steel Blue is the most common name right now. It's also known as Blue Head & New Blue. It probably is a hybrid species and almost all specimens sold are males. It should do fine in a community of small fish (grows to about 6 cm) & doesn't need special water conditions.

You can find quite alot of info on this fish by running a search here. It has been discussed more often than just about anything else.

Hi ppl!
I just figured out this topic, and when i looked at the pic i have realized it is the same fish as in my LFS selling by the name of "Holland Ramirez"!!!
You say it is a hybrid, but can it be bred??
regards

aahhh, i saw a tank full of those in a corporate store in toronto, the employee said they were going to be sold as borellii which i was pretty sure was not true. but the colour of the fish's body was wrong, due to the fact they were in the tank for only a day. i couldn't see a single female, i should have ntoiced that these were probably the ones, but there are sometimes offerred tanks full of males here for some reason from time to time in one species or another.

>>'You say it is a hybrid, but can it be bred??'

there are a few accounts of seeing females offerred, but they are almost always all male tanks- making 'breeding difficult' :( some say the females are very weak and don't live long when they are available. much is still not known about this fish.

Well it is a beutifull fish, and i must admit that it lookes so natural!
And if it is a hybrid, then maybe it is better that breeding is not possible...
Also maybe creators of this fish don't want to spread around females, so they can be only distributors... and few females that show up from time to time is just ones that sliped away...
uf, what a theory
