I resently bought 7 A.cacatuoides from a LFS. I have noticed that a few of them have a nice red belly
I think this is the male am i right?

Red bellies is not something you would look for to sex Apistos. Males are generally bigger, longer more colourful fins etc. Females often have the front edge to their pelvic fins black. When breeding, females generally turn a golden yellow colour.

Ok i see the difference in the fins and size but why do some of them have red or purpleish belly?

I've never noticed that on cacatuoides before. There are loads of different colour variants though.

Would be interested to see pics if you can post them.
