I got a box of fish form Brazil this week. Unfortunately the bag where not labled so i do not know which is which. I will call them Bag 1 and bag 2.

Bag 1 is the most interesting as it contained 4 different species

specie 1 is a aggazie type but only 2 females came so chance of spawning them.

specie 2 is trifasciata

specie 3 is a borollii type I hope to have at least one female

specie 4 i really do not know

Bag 2 contained only one spicie.

and while your about it could you confirm that this fish is a gyphyra

This fish came in on a shipment from Belem. He's a very nice looking fish and I consider myself to be very luck to have a pair. It will be sometime before they spawn the female is only about .5" and the male is only just over an 1.25".

Sorry for the quaulity of the pics.

The fish in the first photo looks like A. borellii to me. I would need a better photo to ID the second fish. The third fish is a member of the caetei-complex, possibly A. cf. caetei Rotwangen/Red-cheeks. I am fairly certain that the agassizii-complex fish is not A. gephyra, but I would like to see a photo of him displaying to be absolutely sure. My guess is that it is A. cf. agassizii BBCS (Broad Black Caudal Seam) for the mouths of the southern tributaries of the lower Amazon.

The true A. gephyra is known only from the Rio Negro. Kullander's Santarém "gephyra" paratype is actually a different species: A. cf. gephyra Santarém/Curuá (see photo in SAC II p. 19 S03336-4 as "A. agassizii "SANTAREM").

You know I never noticed but your right. She looks even better in person and she tiny less than an inch. I have to say and so does the male.

A very nice fish what ever it is.

Honestly I don't know but Ap. sp. "Amapa" look a little heavy but you never know.

It's a nice looking fish and one worth keeping.

Tomorrow I will try and get a pic of the male In threat colours it's completely different from the one in the pic. Also the photo of the male does not do him Justis.

Well it s most probably not a "amapa", all the pictures i see show a distinct separation between lateral band and caudal spot. Your fish doesn t show it.

Okay I,ve found some pic and the short answer is i don't think so the body shape does not look right also there seems to be a break before the spot on the caudal peduncle which my fish do not show.

But other than that they are pretty close.

I'll try to get more pics.

I think it´s a species from the "Commbrae complex". Look at the double tailspot.
My guess is A. inconspicua. Compare the photos in the book by Romer.

Best regards/ Per
