This species lives in blackwater habitats, and their care and breeding are reported to be relatively problematic.

Its nice to be back on here and catching up on the Apisto news after my period of ill health....

I had and bred this species a number of years ago, had to go over to Holland to get mine, and despite the reports i found my pair to be relatively peaceful and easy enough to breed.
I should imagine their problematic nature stems from these aggressive tendencies because those i have known to keep them have had no problems with breeding, especially in larger aquaria. I kept mine in a 3ft tank with lots of oak leaves and thus had no aggression, suspect that in smaller breeding tanks aggression will be increased substantially.

Good luck with the young chaps as i wouldnt mind some of these again. Perhaps we could swap for some of the holotype form A.pertensis young that i have.
