Being a Brazilian apisto, A. mendezi tends to appear commercially in the US only a few times each year. Your best bet is to keep an eye on some of the commercial importers found at this site.

Hello yayfish. I am also new and live in Lancaster pa. If you call and ask for the cichlid manager at thatfishplace you can tell him your interested in a particular species and he'll let you know what they are available.
I also went to house of Tropicals in glen bernie Md and they had three pairs of aggi fires that looked great.
