Mild aggression

Hi folks,
Is it normal for my male cacatuoides to chase the female away from the food? He doesn't nip her or anything, and since they are in a 72g planted tank, she manages to find some space away from him. But if she gets too close to him when it's feeding time, he does chase her away.
Just curious....

Dear Vancat,

What you're experiencing is not uncommon. Just make sure that your female gets her fair share. If necessary, feed the male first and then after she is chased away, feed the female on the opposite side of the tank. They'll eventually get it together come breeding time.

Good luck!

Agreed. If you don't have "mild aggression", you don't have cichlids. You may be suprised how the tables turn on the male when the female is ready to spawn.
