Hi all,
I have in one of my tanks a pair of apistogramma that I think were originally purchased as wild caught macmasteri. I have had differing opinions on them ranging from pebas to macmasteri to eunotus.
Can anyone give me a positive ID please.
The female is currently in a cave guarding eggs so the picture isn't the greatest as she does not come out very often !!
Thanks in advance

Darren

Definitely not A. macmaster IMHO. Neither photo shows sufficient diagnostic features (vertical bars, etc.) to give a positive ID. It does appear to be a member of the eunotus-complex.

Have spoken to the people that imported these and they are very surprised at the Eunotus identification.
According to them they came in as macmasteri and came from Columbia !

As I said previously "Neither photo shows sufficient diagnostic features (vertical bars, etc.) to give a positive ID." If these fish came from Colombia and offered as A. macmaster, it is quite possible that they are. It's just that the photos don't show enough characteristics to give a confident ID. What makes me think that it isn't A. macmasteri is that a female, in dominant/aggression/brood dress, should show much large and darker dorsal spots. Your female's dorsal spots barely show - something typical of most eunotus-complex females.
