Hi,

I have an aquarium which is 430 L (115 g) with a 4' x 2' (120 cm x 60 cm) footprint. Just wondering how many pairs of Apistogramma bitaeniata would be recommended for an aquarium that size?

Many Thanks.

It really depends on how you decorate the tank - and if you want a community tank or a breeding tank. In a properly decorated tank of this size up to 8 specimens should get along OK. Just remember that A. bitaeniata is a polygamous species so one male will try to dominate the other males and breed with all of the females.

Thanks Mike appreciate the info. It's going to be a community display tank, so breeding isn't a priority (time doesn't permit). I originally thought a couple of males and 4 females, but then started to think I should put more males in to spread out any aggression. Thoughts?
