Bissot_J,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Glad to have you with us! :D You probably can get some pretty good suggestions on the forum for maintaining and breeding Dwarfs, but I think that your questions are going to have to be a little more specific. Post as many questions as you would like. There are alot of people here willing to help out.
What country are you from?

Hi,
thanks for the welcome :)

I already breed some apisto (agassizii blue/yello and santarem, cacatuoides, viejita II, caetei ) and dicrosus but now i want go to an other step.

so i decide build me a fishroom with rack to keep some more dwarf cichlid
and of course breed them.

i am from canada (quebec, montreal , my english is not so good  ).

the problem here is find some unusual american dwarf cichlid, because the market is oriented to african cichlid and the not a lot of people have american dwarf cichlid :(.

so here where i am with my project.
- i have the room
- i will have the tanks soon (10,15,20 gallons ) about 20 of them mix
Q: is it a good choices ?
- i think of have all my a air pump who will serve all my tanks for
filtration with sponge ....
is it a good choices ?
- for the fry the tank will be nude with java moss only
- for the parent the breed tank , i want put gravel and coconut (for cavern) and some plant
Q: what do you think ?

My water , i can easyly have water with PH between 3.5 and 6
KH between 1 and 4
GH between 2 and 8
TDS between 20 to 150 microSiemens

this the range i can work easyly.

any comments suggestions are welcome

bonjour 'j', je suis en toronto. votre anglais est bien- meilleur que mon francais!

finding good fish is a challenge for all of us. maybe you could conact z-man, and see where he sells near the canada/ u.s. border, or if he knows anybody up near you. there is always mail-order.

he he, you are right! too bad, considering i took french from grade 4 up to grade 12, and passed every year. i've often thought of moving to quebec, to learn french. i have some francophone friends, but we usually just stick to english. i wonder why...

try these sites:

maybe there is enough people on that list, to make contact wth, that you can get the fish that you want. just because the fish you want is not on their lists, doesn't mean they can't or won't source something that you are particularly interested in.

i have often considered the way to get the best breeding fish, is to become a sellor, and have enough fish moving through your place, that you can keep the fish that you want to breed and sell the rest. this will get you started finding places to sell your fish when you get fish breeding. of course, breeding fish means either keeping a LOT of fish, or finding places to sell or trade them. i wouldn't actively breed a fish without having somewhere to move the offspring.

good luck, rick

Bissot_J,
Sounds like all the elements are in place. Tank size is related to the fish that you keep, but 10-20g. are good for most apistos and rams. Low light plants and sponge filters is what I use. Supply several caves for the fish to choose. Bare-bottom tanks are easiest to keep clean, but make sure you keep up with your water changes. They can crash on you in a hurry, especially when you are using low hardness for tough fish.
Good luck with you project.
