I play soccer with a couple English guys. They have the best Thanksgiving joke I have heard. If you mention that you are going to celebrate Thanksgiving this week they will say, 'We brits celebrate Thanksgiving earlier in the year.' When you fall for it and ask, 'When?', they will respond, 'the 4th of July.'

We deep fry our turkey. I injected it this year with a chipotle pepper marinade. It was awesome. What do the rest of you do to your bird?

We canucks have our Thanksgiving a bit earlier in the year.... This way we don't overload twice on turkey in just under a month

When I can I really enjoy taking soft butter and mixing in diced Pencetta bacon, minced garlic, crushed clove, carmelized onion, chopped chive and freshly chopped rosemary. Then you carefully separate the skin from the meat and pack in the butter mix. Then you stuff the turkey and surround it with every root vegetable you can get your hands on - squash included!! And drizzle the top of the veggies with olive oil and fresh herbs and brown sugar. Then bake it.

But here's what makes it, when you prepare the gravy, sauteé up the gizzards and neck with some onions and herbs. then strip the meat from the neck and mince up the rest of the little stuff. Add all the stuff you sautteéd to the drippings from the veggies and turkey and use that as your base for the gravy.

Then call it a night with some sweet potato pecan pie and homemade pumpkin pie...... Hmmm.... Can't wait to do this meal again  I'm big on making everything myself... I don't much like getting things previously prepared... It's just not the same! Plus I love to cook, so any time I can spend a day in the kitchen I am a happy camper

Well this year since its just me and my 3 year old and I couldnt find a small turkey or a whole chicken... Well I pulled a game hen outta the freezer instead. LOL Covered it with herbs and spices and half cooked it, then smothered it in a terragon(sp?) and orange marmalade mix. I made stove top stuffing and corn on the cob. Cooked up some butter squashed and mashed it with brown sugar and butter and added cooked ground italian sausage to it. Was a small meal, but well suited to the 2 of us. After dinner we finished off with some home made pumpkin pie with whip cream. MMMMMmmmm

Holidays here are pretty small with the hubby gone and just the 2 of us, but we make due with what we have. Hopefully we'll be flying to Boston, Mass to spend xmas with a friend. Last years Thanksgiving was really good and we ate for days on leftovers. I miss home roasted turkey... LOL

My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Bragg was not my favorite place for any holiday (HQ Co, XVIII Airborne Corp - 1968-69). Hopefully things are better now.
