Thanks for the compliments, I will relay them to my girlfriend. The great thing about this tank is that is was fairly inexpensive. The tank, glass cover, and a cheap light were a package deal for about $25. I just took the incandescent socket out of the original light and mounted it in a box that I built out of poplar. I built a reflector also. The actual light is a 10 watt screw in compact flourescent that was something like $5 from walmart. We went with Eco complete for the substrate. I had a bag laying around that I was going to use for a planted apisto tank but I did not like its effects on the pH of the soft water. The plants were extras pulled out of my tanks.

Andrew, I was thinking something along those lines........I might need a cube too! I have been turning over the idea of building a large one in the distant future, about 30X30 as a centerpiece for a room. With the island style aquascaping, it could look really good from all sides.

ya hey nice tank!! I've actually beening thinking about doing this for quite some time myself. The problem is I haven't been able to find a small cube tank to do this with. I was wondering if you could let me know where you got yours or what brand it is. Also what did you use to make the island in the middle? just piling rocks or a substrate mound? Lastly Do you have any filtration? I was debating about this one, so I'm curious as to the route you took. Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions :)

Geof, the brand of tank is Avalon Bay (I think). I picked it up at a shop in Tucson, AZ. The aquascaping is done with 3 small pieces of african driftwood. The plants were originaly secured with black thread. The tank is filtered with an Azoo palm filter:

If your can't find a small cube for a reasonable price, you could build one. Building a small aquarium isn't really that difficult. I just built one today. If you can get the glass precut, the hard part is over. If not, cutting glass just takes a bit of practice. If you decide to go this way, I could give you a few pointers.

I found one! well its a bit bigger its a 10 gal cube so thats like 12.5 x 12.5 or so. Anyway I'm getting it all set up right now. Now I just need to figure out what to put in it...I'm thinking maybe a pair of Blue Rams or something
