There appear to be 2 forms related to A. agassizii from the Rio Tapajos. One is like the Alenquer & Xingu "net" forms of A. agassizii. The other, called A. cf. agassizii Tapajos by Koslowski (2002) has a much broader black marginal band around the tail, with a narrower white submarginal band. The white band is often broken up into dashes. The interior of the tail fin is composed of white dashes on a darker background. Sometimes the lower dashes are orange instead of white. There is a photo by Warzel of this form in Romer's Atlas (p. 255, top). It shows a young specimen since this form can develop extremely elongated dorsal, anal, & caudal fins. For those how have a copy of Yamazaki, et al. (1997), there is a photo of the form on p. 30 (bottom).
