hi guys...i bought these fish a while ago and i'm not quite sure if they are copeina (guttata?) or maybe an pyrrhulina species...

too bad the picture doesn't show the true colours of the fish...they have a rod glow over their body from the tail down to the head...someone any idea ? i also have to note that they are wildcaught fish from peru..

It's a Pyrhulina species, but don't know which one. I collected Copeina guttata in Peru and it is much different. Collected several different Pyrhulina species, too.

At a glance, I'd say it is a species of the Pyrrhulina brevis complex, there are many, and quite a few that are undescribed. The line through the eye is a characteristic that one does not see in Copeina. As a side note, the Copeina from Peru are supposedly C. osgoodi rather than C. guttata.

i have been checking out some pictures of pyrrhulina brevis on the internet and it looks like the same fish or at least a nearby relative...
