I was wondering around what age do cacatuoides(any apisto really) become mature or ready to spawn? One of my females seemed ready to spawn about a week and a half ago showing yellow and aggressively chasing the others away from her cave but the male did not seem interested in her. The following week she was back to her dull color swimming around in the tank. They are about 6 months old.

With 6-8 months they can spawn.

Gwendal is correct in most cases. I have heard of specimens that have had 'forced' growth. The fish developed mature features and colors at 3 months and spawned about a month later. I personally avoid forcing growth. Not only am I too lazy to do all of the extra feedings and water changes, but studies with marine fish show that fish grown slower (lower temperatures) tend to grow larger and live longer.
