Hi,
I have been keeping fish for more than 30 years and became quite found in trying to model the natural habitats in order to give the best conditions possible to them.
I currently have a 500 liters system with a leaf litter bottom. No sand or gravel, just a thick base of old leafs of palm trees, oak trees and other similar species (I do not like the looks of oak trees leafs because they do not seem tropical at all so I am replacing them slowly with other species I can found here in Portugal).
The habitat I am trying to replicate is the one found in small forest creeks in the middle-section of Rio Negro near the city of Barcelos.
I will post a detailed description in the appropriate sub-forum soon.
Currently the only cichlids I have are just a trio of Apistogramma cf. pertensis. I might add a small group of Dicrossus filamentosus.
