Yes, all are names for the same fish. Fresa is Spanish for Strawberry, the name that Julio Melgar gave the first imports of this fish (well actually he sent me photos under the name of his daughter first :). A. sp. Diamante is what it is called in Japan. In Germany it is called A. sp. Rotbard/Red-beard. In Spain it has come in as A. sp. Barbarroja/Red-beard. Wow! Aren't names fun!

Hi Mike,

The name "Rotbart" is quite unusual in germany (but I read it too, when this species was new). This species was introduced here as Ap. sp. "Barbarossa" by Frank Warzel, if I remember correctly. But anyway, Barbarossa is another name of King Redbeard in history, so it's almost the same ;-) ...and that's where the name Barbarossa comes from. It describes the red marks in the face (=beard) of this species.

greetings,
Rolo
