    Babies - Yay - Shock - Horror !

hmm, I like my cherry barbs..... Did a water test today and I have 0 Nitrates, hardly any Phospahtes (well, algae are good for something....) and the water had gone really soft. As you said, the water conditions were probably stable due to no water changes and the fishload is well below max...

    Babies - Yay - Shock - Horror !

Update on the Baby-shock: One male survived and is doing well. He is about 0.8cm now and mummy is still defending him (even against brine shrimp!). He has no colour yet, so I am not sure if he will be as pretty as daddy, but he seems to be doing ok.

    Babies - Yay - Shock - Horror !

ok, I have to admit that I was thinking about giving up my tank. I havent been looking after it since ages. I did buy a pair of Aggassizis at the beginning of the year, the male looks great, the female is tiny and doesnt seem to be growing ( about 3 cm). I didnt think they would ever breed...

    Hydra Problem

Yeah, I know. I have just added some more plants. Will get some more fast growers on the weekend. The main problem with this tank is, that it is right next to the window. But the real algae problems only started, when I used rainwater and introduced Blanket Weed to the tank. The BW wasn't such...

    My First Apistos (pictures)

Bethnal Green hasn't got an awful lot of Dwarf Cichlids (at least last time I was there), but I am going again on Friday, then I can tell you more. If you are after Cories on the other hand, it is THE place to go. Loads of different varieties, all sizes (from baby to fully grown). They...

    My First Apistos (pictures)

This pair I got from Maidenhead Aquatics in Morden. Wholesale Tropicals in Bethnal Green has some in as well, but they are really tiny at the moment. He wouldn't sell them as a guaranteed pair yet.

    My First Apistos (pictures)

Hello Thanks for your answers. My Babrs are fine. They generally keep themselves to themselves. I got cherry babrs, because they look great and they are peaceful. They should also be fast enough to run away in case the Apistos chase them. Funny thing is, that the Apistos display to the...

    My First Apistos (pictures)

Hello, Finally managed to track down some Agassizi. Added them to the tank yesterday. Today they are out and about. Lovely little fish, allthough still very small (smaller than a male cherry barb). Here is some pictures. Enjoy ! PS.: what kind of Agassizi are they ? And do I...

    Hydra Problem

Update Hello I know it was a long time ago, but the Hydra were gone shortly after my last message and the babies grew up to be lovely Cherry Barbs. The Gouramis finally turned on them and they were gone within a week. I sadly lost the Gouramis a short time ago  But I heard that they...

    Hydra Problem

yay ! I got babaies ! Hello I will have to stop for a while treading the Hydra. I have just noticed, that I have babies in the Tank 8O . By the looks of it (unless sparkling gouramies are lifebearers), they are Cherry Barbs. I have see one baby which is about the size of a newborn Guppy, so...

    Hydra Problem

Hello I have a bad outbreak of Hydra. It's the white ones and they are all over my tank. How do I get rid of them without killing my snails ? I did do a search on the web, and it was said, that they appear in tanks which are overfed and that Ramshorn Snails eat them and also Croaking...

    Ready for Apistos ?

Hiya Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I don't want to play around with the PH too much, otherwise waterchanges will be a pain. But the Cherry Barbs ? Why would you remove them ? I would have thought the Goodeid could be the problem ? Thanks Sabine

    Ready for Apistos ?

Hello I think my tank is finally ready for my Apistos. Here is the latest Measurements: PH 7.6 KH 3.64 GH 7.84 Nitrates 5mg/l (or below, the lightest colour on the Hagen Test) CO2 2.73 Phosphates 1.5mg/l Which Apistos would be happy, with this ? I was hoping to start with...

    Ccihlid Atlas

Great, as my Shrimp tank will be modified to house Pygmy Puffers :D

    Ccihlid Atlas

Hello Thanks for your answers. Neil: That was the kind of information I was looking for. I do think that most likley the Apistos I see at the LFS are going to be Cactoides and Agassizi, but you never know  Rick: I know of those sites. But A) they are quite expensive and B) I...

    Ccihlid Atlas

I wish I could, but the Retailers here don't allways carry Dwarf Cichlids Books. The place where I am going to buy the pair from hasn't got any books at all.... I already got one book about Dwarf Cichlids and I have been looking all over the net as well, to make sure I get the right kind of...

    Ccihlid Atlas

Hmmm, I am really looking for a book which allows me to idendtify the species at the LFS tank (not too concerned about the males, more the females). Would Romer be good for that ? On the other hand, as I am looking to buy Cactoides, could someone maybe just tell me how to make 100% sure, that...

    A. bitaeniata ??

Hmm, I thought that may be the case. So skilled Photoshop work, rather than more-beautiful-than-parrot-fish.... Funny enough, the Cactoides in the book don't look so spectacular... :?: well, that's my problem. I can't get the PH below 7 and my water is quite hard (dGH 10), so I will give...
