I got a 20 long, takin time to plant it. Here is my planned stocking list, tell me what you think:
1 pair of Blue Rams
9 Nannostomus unifasciatus or Nannostomus anduzei
7 Otocinclus vittatus
while only the Rams are found in the Llanos all the time. I talked to the mod at...
Thanks bigbird, I might get one of those, but the reason for an algae eater is not necessarily for algae(sounds silly). the tank will seem more natural. and I am to lazy to clean it. lol:)
yea, I'm just gonna get some Marisa cornuarietis (kind of Apple snail from SA) and they will take care of algae.
My new stocking list for a Llanos swamp plain biotope:
1 pair of Blue Rams
14 pristella maxillaris (xray tetra) or 14 hyphressbyron sweglesi (red phantom tetra)
1 clown pleco...
well, I found a great pleco, the clown pleco, found in the llanos plains, but unfortunately, it is not an insane algae eater like otos. They dont sucker on to glass much to clear, and mainly suckers and eats wood.
are there any other locations for Rams then?
I wanted an algae eater, like otos, cuz my tanks CAN get a lot of light from the windows.
Thank you sooooooo much Mike, you have helped me sooooo much,
-Nick
wait, if it is da same river, couldn't they all be theoretically found in the same place?
Since u say it is not a true biotope, do you have a biotope with Blue Rams in mind? I really wanted the rummynoses, I saw a vid, amazing schooling, and about the otos, they are awesome!!! I saw them at...
ok, the decision has been almost completely made:
1 pair of blue rams
9-11 green neons or rummynoses 9 (it turns out both fish are great schoolers)
6-7 otocinclus vittatus
Since all these fish are located in the Orinoco river, so it will be a Orinoco biotope.
eh, forget the shrimp, well, I have made a journal at a forum, here is the link:

oh, sorry, I missed that. well, if I did ever want to breed, couldn't I use a spare 5 gallon? The reason I cant keep hatchets is becuase the lid would lower the light level on the tank.
well, since it is such a big challenge, I will focus on breeding when I am ready and have more supplies and room. Maybe when I get a job in high school in a couple years.
so would this be ok?:
9 rummys
2 pairs of Blue Rams (or maybe a trio instead)
6 otocinclus cocama
The list may...
its semi-important to me, breeding I mean, I want to make a littl emoney selling to lfs, but I dont want a breeding program like twofishguyz. lol. So what tetra would you recommend then?
Are Rummynose tetras that bad of fry/egg eaters?
They are one of the most highly considered schooling fish. Do you think a group of 4 Rams (Blue) could stand up against a school of 9 rummynoses and 5 otocinclus?
That is probably overstocked for the 20 long, but if not and the rams could...
that could be a problem, lol. So far, I should get my tank today from PetSmart. I have to mod the stand though. It should be ok soon. The stock list is:
4 or 5 otocinclus cocama
pair of centerpiece fish (apistos/rams)
7 or 9 pygmy/marbled hatchetfish.
how's that?
