Appears to be a Maulbruder(mouthbrooder) male. Not sure on the species there though. The orange/yellow at the base of the tail is exactly like my mouthbrooder.

You will want to keep an eye on the shrimp population with Apisto's in the tank. You may see your population significantly dwindle as they become snacks.

A. Hongsloi or A. Viejita "Rio Meta" would be my choices for a set up like that with what you said about coloration. These are two very vibrant apisto's.

I have been finding mixed information on this species and was hoping some of the veterans could tell me some of the characteristics of this fish, monogomous vs harem, preferred Ph and hardness, and any other information would be extremely helpful.

Many times the common name that gets put on the altipsinosa is the Bolivian Ram and the Ramirezi is many times listed as the German Blue Ram. Better to start learning and using the latin names as common names vary too much. Even the latin names change enough to make it difficult.
