well well well, what have we here?

I can tell you one thing; they sure aren't A.tucurui. That's what my supplier listed them as, but they still have some traits that make me think of eastern-Brazil based species. I received six of them, and I was surprised to see they were about 3" (7-8 cm) and in fine condition. Too bad they...

    2 Apistos to ID

I was sent 2 different species of Apisto from my supplier the other day, he didn't have a name for them except A.sp."Colombia" and A.sp."Belem". Both are wilds. I'm thinking A.iniridae for the Colombian one, and perhaps A.caetei for the Brazilian one from Belem?

    A.agassizii "Netz"?

I recently received some Apistos from an exporter in Manaus, Brazil. Most of the batch appears to be A.gephyra, but among them I think I see two, a male and a female, that stands out from the rest. Could they be A.agassizi "Netz"? Here's the male: Here he is compared to a gephyra next...

    gephyra vs agassizii females

Apistogramma gephya wild Manaus. Sounds exciting right? I received 30 of them. There sure are some nice males among them, with yellow cheeks. However, I can see a specimen or two of what seems to be A.agassizii "Netz", and also some males with no yellow on their cheeks. These could of course be...

    What's your most wanted Apisto?

I'm currently planning to set up a few new breeding tanks for some Apistogramma species, and was thinking of which species I'd like to keep. So I thought it would be good fun to start a little thread here to see which species are on people's most wanted list! Perhaps this could also reveal if...

    Apistogramma pulchra & co.

I'm currently trying to learn how to separate some of the similar Apistogrammas in the group containing pulchra. There's a lot of misleading info out there, and I don't think the apparent misidentification made by Römer in his Vol.1 made it much easier for people... I recently developed a...

    "Apistogramma caetei Xingu"?

My Czech supplier lists a species as Apistogramma caetei Xingu. It's not among the cheapest on the list. As far as I know, A.caetei is not found in the Xingu, and regular caetei are listed at a much lower price. Does anyone know what might hide behind the name? Haakon

    A.sp.Kuiari?

To me this one is unfamiliar. It's presented at the website of Japanese importer Aquafin, and said to come from Rio Icana Kuiari, Colombia. http://aquafin.web.infoseek.co.jp/apisto-minima/New-apisto-top.html Haakon

    A.sp.llanero & A.sp.assuruni

I just skimmed through the latest stocklist from a large German importer and saw a couple of names I haven't encountered before; A.sp.llanero and A.sp.assuruni. Both are listed as new species. Naturally I'm curious about what hides behind these names, so does anybody here know? Haakon

    Apistogramma sp.Victoriano?

I haven't heard of A.sp.Victoriano before, but after a quick internet search it seems to be a name used for a variety of A.atahualpa...? I found this pic which shows an interesting male, unusual colours...more info would be nice :) it's found here...

Impact of Xingu dams on Dwarf Cichlids

Damming of the Rio Xingu in Brazil seems to be an unavoidable happening in the not too distant future. We've been discussing the issue for some time in detail over at Planetcatfish.com, dreading the demise of many of our beloved Catfish species. Many of them depend on their habitat's fast...

    New Apistos in recent times

I was wondering if there's any online register of new Apisto discoveries (not just scientifically described species but new species in general)? Is anybody here keeping track of these? How many new species (and which) have surfaced in recent years? I feel I could use some updating on this...

    Etroplus canarensis

Hi all, Recently quite a few specimens of the Indian Canara Cichlid, Etroplus canarensis, have reached Scandinavia. I got hold of 4 specimens, but might be getting more. After searching the net I am yet to find any information about the breeding of this species. Has anyone on this forum...

    Apistos for warm water

I'm setting up a new large Amazon tank, and since I'll keep the water quite warm (28-30 C), I was wondering about good Apisto alternatives for such high temperatures. I've kept Apistos under various temperature conditions before, but the ones I'm putting in this tank I'm planning to keep there...
