    Full Boa Vista Trip

Huddy The Collector As usual, thanks Hudson for the wonderful photographic images and cool Apistos (and other fish) you have access to! It's wonderful that you share them here and on your blog. I think the next time I am down in South America, I am totally paying yourself a visit. This will...

    Dicrossus filamentosus hermaphroditic?

Currently, they are still being held in QT, but showing great progress from their initial ordeal of shipping. I would say, I'm impressed with the "quasi-shoaling" behaviour they exhibit and no one seems to leave by themself. Things might change however when they are placed in the 40GAL...

    Dicrossus filamentosus hermaphroditic?

I managed to get 8 of these lovely litte gems. Spent an hour acclimatizing them to our lovely low pH, acidic water and they colored up almost instantly. Gave them a small feeding and they went to town! Looking forward to getting some breeding out of these. Ted, I will keep you posted on the...

    Dicrossus filamentosus hermaphroditic?

Figured as much. I'm getting a group of 6 from Spencer Jack on Monday and this article by Ad Konings has been going over in my mind for a long time. I think what he had happen there was a sneaker male amongst his group. Thanks Mike. Gary

    Dicrossus filamentosus hermaphroditic?

Is their any valid research proving or disproving this? I am super curious about this as I am getting a group of 6 individuals on Monday and I have been reading about this unique trait from an article by Ad Konings. I am just wondering if its a valid claim. Gary

    Yes, Another ID Question

Oh yeah, A.agassizi and A.papagei right now. Looking for more, but where I currently live in Canada Apistos are hard to come by. Gary

    Yes, Another ID Question

To follow up this thread, it turned out to be a very pretty and stunning Apistogramma agassizi. His colours are stunning. A month after we posted this, we definitely saw changes in shape, colour and behaviour. Thanks again. Gary

sp. Pebas, sp. Papagei, sp. Putumayo

That's cool. We are just now awaiting for Papa and Penny to "hook up" and start hopefully supplying us with Fry. Both their bellies are no longer looking sunken but as they should for Apistogramma. We will keep y'all posted. Gary & Erin

sp. Pebas, sp. Papagei, sp. Putumayo

Yeah, we are loading them up on meaty foods while keeping a good eye on water quality. The pH is around 6.0 if not 5.9 right now and they have really coloured up. Penny, our Female, has turned Yellow which is a promising sign of her brooding dress. Crossing the fingers... I noticed that you...

sp. Pebas, sp. Papagei, sp. Putumayo

Thanks Mike, dropping in some Almond leaves this evening and with the water they were boiled in. Should get better results. Right now, we are feeding them back up to snuff with Bloodworms, Microworms and Frozen Brine Shrimp. Gary

To once again revive this thread. Yesterday, at an Aquarium Society Auction we noticed a pair of what were labelled as "Apistogramma papagolie" (definate Male/Female) in a display aquarium. Being the Apisto nuts we are (We can all agree on this one) We started to seek out the owner of these two...

    Yes, Another ID Question

Jest ye kidding! ROFL. I'll try to get a picture Mike, I know that Apistos are hard to describe and id when they are young. Might borrow a good photographer to get a good shot. We are hyper curious about "Nim" (the Apisto in question name). Gary

    Yes, Another ID Question

About one month ago, my Girlfriend and I were doing our usual Fish Store crawl when we happened upon a little hidden treasure in a tankful of Pristella Tetras; a small (I do mean small) Apistogramma. At the time of purchase it was 3/4" of an Inch but clearly showing some markings. Now that...

    Choose the Crenicichla

This is what is slaying me, so many different viewpoints on this. Same say, ok, others say, no way. I understand their aggression is a bit more than the other dwarves I've kept, watching them in their natural environment in Bolivia, I noticed they kept large distances and territories from...

    A. cf pertensis & A. gibbiceps Info Needed

I always gun for 5.5 as a bare minimum for pH. At this level, you can achieve most breeding for our favourite Blackwater fish. I've had a few crashes, but I believe at least 2 were totally my fault (tinkering) but the others well, they just happened... Gary

Try feeding the fish some medicated food, I use Marine Flakes with Garlic in it, but if it is internal parasites, you'll need something stronger. Make sure you do daily small water changes, and ensure nothing is in the tank to stress him. pH is ok, but I would gun for a little bit more closer...

When an Apisto darkens up, its not usually a good thing. Have you done a water change and can you give us some water readings (before the change)? I am curious as to what the the water specs are. I think you have something in there causing him issue. Gary

If your fish is stressed, just do a small one. I would say 10-15%. Make sure you look for rotting food and other items that might cause possible water problems in the tank. Eventually, you might want to clean your filtration unit as well. Remember to use tank water to clean the sponges and...

Did your friend overfeed? Have you done a water change recently (like in the last 2 or 3 days)? You might want to start doing some small water changes and a good vac of the gravel/sand to ensure that no rotting food is befouling the water creating toxic conditions. Not knowing how your water...
