live foods > types & culture info

I feed micro worms, grindal worms, white worms, blackworms and sometimes cut up earthworms. I obtained all the cultures except the earthworms on aquabid via The BugFarm.

    Optimum time to pull fry?

My pair of cacs had eggs 4 days ago. The eggs are in the vibrating stage now. I plan on pulling this batch of fry. I want to ensure that I get at least one batch of fry out of them. They have ate their eggs before this. After how many days of development is the optimum time to siphon them out?

    Aggie Eggs

unfortunately the eggs only lasted about 36 hours until eaten. Maybe next time.

Congrats. My cacs have eggs now. Hopefully, this will lead to fry. What were your water parameters and what did you feed?

    Oak Leaves

I have read on the forum that oak leaves are good for both lowering pH and atmosphere for the apistos. I got some today at the park, and of course they were green. My plan is to dry them out in the oven for 30 minutes at 150F and then briefly boil to kill any critters. Questions: Does the...

    which one to use??

Just use sphagnum peat moss. I have used both the Scott brand (smaller packages, but more expensive) and the 2 cubic foot bales available at home depot. Good luck. This method got my pH 8, KH 8, GH 11 water to a point of pH 6.8, KH 2, GH 3 and my apisto aggies spawned. I was targeting 6 to...

    Aggie Eggs

After a week and a half of doing the dance, my pair of aggies have spawned. I worked the pH down to 6.8, KH to 2 and GH to 3 using peat filtered in a bucket as the water change medium. Questions: How long for aggiee eggs to hatch to wriggler stage? I plan on leaving male, female, and...

How long before breeding dance turns to action?

More breeding questions Thanks for the reply Neil. Would you suggest mostly peat filtered water than for the aggies. I can bring the pH down with it as well as the KH and GH, but I was initially afraid to do so in fear of having the pH drift too much due to minimal KH. What are your thoughts...

How long before breeding dance turns to action?

First off, I am new to the group. Great reading here. I am in my first attempt to breed agasizzii and caucatoides. I have a pair of them in separate tanks with peat filtered water with pH 6.8, KH 3, GH 5. I am feeding live grindal worms and frozen brine and bloodworms. Each of the pairs...
