hmm the new, novel, and unobtainable sounds interesting but then I'd love to hear the art of identifying. One of those two for sure.

Honestly apistodave breeds excellent apistos. He's on aquabid and a member here. He's not much of a talker so I'm not sure if you'll get the answers your looking for :p You will get great stock though and he has 2 or 3 different cacs including f1 blues.

Just thought I would do a quick update. I believe it's been about 4 months since I started. I wish the phalaris was thicker, but not too bad for my first riparium. I've learned a lot and will do some things differently with the next one.
Some inhabitants.

it won't be consistent, it will be very active at first (probably too active for fish) and then it will die down to almost nothing for a month or so. I've brewed thousands of beers and have helped my friend with wine as well.

I am still waiting on my novus polish kit to finish the aquarium. I'm planning on maybe using a 3d background and a lot of hardscape to attach plants too. I'll have a sandy open area for the fish to sift and soil with eco complete in the back for plants. Hopefully next weekend I'll have pics of...
I do small weekly water changes to keep the ph low as apistos are often found in small pools of still water full of decaying vegetation. They seem to thrive without daily water changes.
I'm glad you got it figured out, Mike has an amazing wealth of knowledge we all learn much from the wise Mike...
I wouldn't use 100% ro because you are right fish need the minerals. I have been able to get a 6.2 ph with tap water using almond leaves alone so I'm not sure why yours isn't lower. May just need more time.

I don't think ro will go any lower. The only natural ways are what you are doing, maybe you just need to wait for more decomposition?
I know a lot of apisto keepers use chemicals to lower the ph for breeding like sodium bisulfate. Chemicals are safe if you learn to use them correctly.
If you...
I understand, I use co2 because of plants 30ppm would lower your ph to 5.8. I'm not sure how you will get that low without chemicals.
