Wild Apisto. Atahualpa

I just got a pair of Wild Apisto.Atahualpa last Wednesday

I have the pair in a 15 gallon planted tank

The male alway hang around the surface of the tank..Usually near the heater or in the back corner of the tank

He not breathing heavy

The female is some times with him

I have no other fishes with them
I know this isn`t nromal.

What can I do to help this fish out

The fish is under stress, and may have other problems...
If i were you, i would:
1. separate the fish from other fish.
2. increase filtration and oxygen content in water.
3. add some mild anti-bacteria medicine, such as
Waterlife's Myxazin, to prevent further infection...

i would check the water quality first

nitrate can simply be a reason for what you describe

is the fish eating?
is it passing feaces, if so collect some and then examine under magnification for worms//worm egg's/protozoa
gill colour texture?
any body lesions etc
