Like females of A. macmasteri, A. viejita females do not show a pronounced black throat. You are confusing A. viejita with A. sp. Schwarzkehl/Black-throat. In many older books Schwarzkehl was labeled "A. viejita Color Form III". "A. viejita Color Form II" (also known as A. sp. Rotflecken/Red-flecks) is a more colorful population of A. sp. Schwarzkehl that was collected in small lakes and pools. Sadly, CF II/Rotflecken disappeared from the hobby in the mid-1980s. Breeders later started selling colorful wild and domestic strains of A. macmasteri as "A. viejita II" for the past 25 years.
