Hi.

I'm new to the forum. I have been keeping fish for a number of years now, I mostly keep African Cichlids & Catfish, mainly from the Rift Lakes. I currently have a 47 gallon Mbuna community, and 26 gallon Tanganyikan community. My Rusty and Kingsize cichlids have recently spawned and I have 30+ fry in a small holding tank. I am now looking into keeping Dwarf Cichlids.:)

Welcome!!!

Given your experience with Rift lake fish, Apistogrammas in general require rather soft, acidic water -- opposite end of the spectrum. There are some that can be kept in harder, slightly alkaline water such as A. cacatuoides and A. borellii (two good beginner fish I saw you are considering). However, both still need softer, lower PH water than the Mbuna and especially the Tanganyikans.
