Hi everyone,

i'm 27 and I live in Milan. I'm about to start my very first aquarium, which will be a Rio 125. The tank will be very planted and the population will be based on a Amazon biotope.

I really need the advices of more expert people in order to set up the tank properly!

Have a look at <"Bob Wiltshire's web site">, it is full of good advice.

There is a really useful article by Colin Dunlop as well, on leaf litter, it is called <"All the leaves are brown">.

cheers Darrel

Hi Dan,
Actually, you can check the internets for almost every information that you need to set up your tank.

By the way, here are some interesting ideas for your tank setup:

But for suggestions of fish, probably you can ask the people here who have the experience with many kinds of fish.
There are many beautiful and colourful fish with nice/unique characteristics.

Hi Dan,
I forgot to tell you something.
Actually, I find that the "biggest challenge" when "buying new fish" is prevention from parasites infection.
I find that parasite infection is the number one killer for my fish than any other reason.
Parasites and bacteria infections are very common in your local fish shops. Many fish shops like to feed their fish with worms which can easily bring the parasites into their tanks.
Many internet articles will advise you to keep your new fish in a "quarantine tank" for a few weeks before introducing them to your main tank.
And as a precaution, I treat my tank for parasite infection whenever I introduce new fish.

Hi Dan,
Since you are new to fish keeping, I think you might want to read these :

1)How to cycle new fish tank?

2) How to quarantine new fish and plants?
All new fish and plants might carry parasites, bacteria or even pesticides(plant).

https://www.google.com.sg/amp/m.wikihow.com/Quarantine-Freshwater-Fish?amp=1?client=ms-opera-mobile&espv=1

https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-quarantine-aquarium-plants

http://pets.thenest.com/precautions-adding-plant-life-aquariums-12052.html

3) Washing/rinsing your new substrate/ gravel before putting them into your fish tank:.
http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co....uently-asked-questions-on-aquarium-substrates

In fact for myself, after rinsing the substrate, I will pour hot water into the substrate to kill off any bacteria, etc before putting them into my new tank.
