It is a regani-complex species. It probably is not A. paulmueleri, but one of the related forms like "A. sp. Peru-Regani" (Römer, CA2) or a species TomC found in the Río Tigre a few years back. We really don't have much information on these species/forms. What species were in the mix?
A bit confusing info from the supplier. I had a look at their list. It looks like it's APISTOGRAMMA APACHE "MASKEN" ITAYA. Which is actually A. paulmueleri. What do you think?
It looks different from A. paulmueleri to me. The caudal spot is more of a short oval instead of the long vertical band seen on paulmueleri. Additionally, I'd expect to see more color on the face if it were paulmueleri. I think I'll stick with my original assessment.
I have checked Römer's description in his book. I think you are right, the fish looks very much as what he describes as "A. sp. Peru-regani". Thank you.
