Hey are you a member of the Chicago Cichlid Association (C.C.A.) ?
IF You are, you have it made! I have gotten into fish "group buys" from members for "my club" here in Seattle that I NEVER would have gotten other-wise!
I cruise they're web-site all the time & check into the classifieds (many catagories) then try to "ask" members to see IF they'll willing ship fish out West here!
They are very gracious in-deed!! Great packing jobs even in late Fall/Winter too!!
Try and join this great club If your not a member already

I am not a member but i know a lot of the people in there. Not sure if you mean the CCA or GCCA both are good clubs. I found some young ones at the GCCA swap plus I found a wild female from http://aquaticclarity.com/ she has laid eggs once. But thank you for the tip

How far off the grid do you live? A. macmasteri are probably in the top 3 in terms of global availability and unless you aim for wild caught or F1-5 you must have a really lazy and incompetent LFS or no shipping company willing to deliver to your location.
If you are willing to tell the forum your lication maybe somebody in your area crops up or somebody from your country can guide you to an online source worth their money.

So near a metropolitan center. You will likely find something local or with a short driving distance quickly.

jdaquatics and aquaticclarity are two places i would recommend - though shipping is gonna cost. Local is most economic if you can find some - long island has some large aquatic stores .

Just a side note... you're willing to get two specimens of one of the most common species shipped cross-continent?

In usa shipping across country - say california to ny is sometime better than shipping 1/4 of that distance. I'm in the south-east but frequently get fishes from oregon.

I personally would take a hobby bred Mac over an imported farmed Mac any day of the week; even if one were local and the other shipped across country; having said that these days i mostly go for wild caught fishes. My wc cockatoo are actually pretty darn nice now that they've aged a bit.

Guess for Europeans this is just hard to grasp.
I would guess the quality of fish stores in Europe are far superior to many of those in the USA; and that 'mass hobbists' are far more serious about proper fish keeping than those in USA but that is just speculation on my part.

Without further hijacking the thread:

I won't judge the quality of stores, as you also have great ones and we have very poor ones. But I will say thanks to strict regulations in animal keeping in general, people have to research more before setting up their first tank and that translates in to more seriousness indeed. Still we also have sales-hungry retailers promoting the same industry lies as yours and kids with spongebob huts in their tanks. Maybe less of a common thing, but it exists.
