My guess is a 'brokeback' pair. From picture #3, the dorsal fin has the characteristic of a young male. A. trifasciata has a tendency to throw skewed sex ratio favoring males unless the breeder takes the effect to adjust the water parameters.
You don't need a couple of months. Just look at the title : FS apistogramma trifasciata (vic Melbourne) in the Classified Ads - Buy or Sell. There is a very clear picture of a female with fry (pic#4). Notice the dorsal fin and compare that with your 'shemale', I mean female.
