Hi, I was sold this wild fish as an Apistogramma agassizii "Tefe", but a comparison with available photos online seems to show that this isn't a Tefe, and I haven't been able to find anything similar enough to conclude what I got. Can anyone help?
thanks for the ID Mike is there a common trade name or locality type for these (like the trade name Ap. agassizii "Manicore") or are they just simply known as Apistogramma agassizii "Nets/Netz"?
Sorry, without a known collecting locality all they can be called is A. (cf.?) agassizii "Net" (for the net-like pattern on the flanks). As I said before, this form has been found in most rivers that enter the Amazon from the north and below Manaus (on the Rio Negro).
