There's a lfs in nyc called New World Aquarium on 38th between 3rd and 2nd Ave that has a smattering of both South American and African dwarfs. There's also one on Long Island in Centereach that has a selection of SA dwarfs. Both will order for you if you want. Happy hunting!

New world has crazy prices!!!
You can get 3 times the fish for the prices they have!
Plus don't like the service.

Absolutely fish in Clifton NJ is the best place I have found. Usualy they sell pairs, prices are reasonable considering what you can get in this area. Service is usually good. They have lots of plecos, and tetras, and pencil fish too. some nice plants. The supplies can get expensive, but you gotta support the LFS right? the few that are left.
There is also Shark aquarium on rt22, they usually just have males.
I have heard tales of apistos at another place farther west on 22, I saw it once, never stopped in. Maybe a little far from the city tho.

The place out 22 west is the Pet Shanty. In the best they have had good sampling of African and South American cichlids. They are the only lfs I have every seen with killis.

Apistos

Had luck with Kazimirez in Hackensack, NJ. Generally has some apistos and killies at reasonable prices. Absolutely Fish are very expensive, but the only ones to have Tripple Red's once in a while (but for $60/pair???). Reef Encounters by Hackensack are OK for African mbuna, but generally slim pickins for S American dwarfs. Good plants tho.
