55 Gallon Breeding Set Up 48" x 12"

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have kept apisto C. before. However, this time I want to do it right. I am thinking of setting up a 55 Gallon with a footprint of 48" x 12". I am interested in eventually getting them to breed. Could 2 males and 6 females work? Furthermore, the decor would be 4 clay pots as caves and a piece of driftwood. The tank would be bare bottom with an Aquaclear 500/110 as filtration.

IME Apistos like to dig, give them dark coloured sand.
Fill the tank with lots of driftwood and plants, they need to feel secure.
Six females might be too many.
